Facilitates communication and understanding during the student delegation trip to Moscow.
A. Pre-Departure:
1. Familiarization with Program Objectives and Itinerary:
Review the tripβs objectives, itinerary, and specific events where interpretation will be required. Understand the context and significance of each meeting and activity.
2. Glossary and Key Terms:
Develop a glossary of key terms related to the tripβs themes, including educational, cultural, and technical terminology.
Familiarize with any specific jargon that may be used during meetings or presentations.
B. During Trip:
1. Real-Time Interpretation:
Provide accurate and real-time interpretation during formal meetings, events, and informal interactions.
Ensure clarity and fidelity to the original message.
2. Translation of Materials:
Translate written materials, including program agendas, menus, informational brochures, and presentations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
3. Assist with Local Interactions:
Facilitate communication between delegation members and local Russians during outings, shopping, dining, or any unplanned interactions.
4. Confidentiality and Professionalism:
Maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professionalism, especially when interpreting sensitive or private conversations.
5. Adaptability and Flexibility:
Be adaptable and flexible, ready to provide language support in various settings, adjusting to last-minute changes in the itinerary or meeting formats.
C. General Guidelines:
1. Continuous Communication:
Maintain open lines of communication with the delegation leaders and the organizing team, staying informed of any updates or changes to the schedule that require language support.
2. Equipment Check:
Ensure that all necessary equipment, such as portable translation devices, microphones, or headphones, is in working condition and available when needed.
3. Emergency Language Support:
Be prepared to offer emergency language support in case of medical, legal, or logistical issues, facilitating clear communication between delegation members and local authorities or services.
4. Cultural Mediation:
Act as cultural mediators when necessary, explaining cultural nuances or practices to delegation members to enhance understanding and prevent misunderstandings.
